The Eurobarometer survey is designed to provide regular monitoring of public social and political attitudes in the EU through specific trend questions. Therefore, the general aim of EB is to know the attitudes and evaluations of European citizens about large general themes. The questions concern to the European integration issues, but sometimes they regard also specific problem about single country or common problems of economic, political or social nature.

The arguments of Eurobarometer 82.4 are as follows:

  • European Parliament (EP): information on and role of the EP, knowledge about European institutions and the EP, present and future of the EP, European values and policies, European Identity, media use;
  • Awareness of, usage of and attitudes towards autonomous systems: robots, driverless cars and civil drones;
  • Perception of, attitudes towards and political priorities regarding gender equality, gender stereotypes and fields of inequality (family roles, age groups, single parents, working parents, people with disabilities, migrants, labour market), forms of violence against women;
  • Smoking habits regarding boxed cigarettes, hand-rolled cigrarettes, cigars, cigarillos, pipe, water pipe, oral/chewing/nasal tabacco and electronic cigarettes. Efforts to quit smoking, passive smoking inside and banning advertisements for tobacco products.

    Notes:

    Module QA on ´Autonomous systems´ partly replicates questions asked in the context of Eurobarometer 77.1. Module QB on ´Gender equality´ replicates a few questions asked in the context of Eurobarometer 72.2. Module QC on ´Smoking habits´ partly replicates questions asked in the context of Eurobarometer 77.1.

    Module QP ´Parlemeter 2014´ largely replicates questions asked in Eurobarometer 79.5. Please note that the dataset holds the original cross-country variables for questions qp17a to qp17d on media use. The country specific items (television channels, radio stations, daily newspapers and websites) can be identified via the corresponding country questionnaires.

    Starting with Eurobarometer 81.3, the category scheme for country specific protocol variables P6 (SIZE OF COMMUNITY) has changed considerably, except for Germany. Categories for all other countries have been harmonized among each other to three values (Rural area – Towns and suburbs/small urban area – cities/large urban areas).

    Starting with Eurobarometer 81.3 the category scheme for country specific protocol variables P7 (REGION) has changed for some countries, in particular introducing NUTS categories for Ireland, Estonia, and Croatia. Data for the European Parliament module QP have been provided separately and have subsequently been merged by the archive in dataset version v3-0-0. This is also true for protocol variables p1 to p5.

    Data for protocol variables p8 (postal code), p9 (sample point number) and p10 (interviewer number) have not been made available.
