The Eurobarometer survey is designed to provide regular monitoring of public social and political attitudes in the EU through specific trend questions. Therefore, the general aim of EB is to know the attitudes and evaluations of European citizens about large general themes. The questions concern to the European integration issues, but sometimes they regard also specific problem about single country or common problems of economic, political or social nature.

The arguments of Eurobarometer 84.1 are as follows:

  • European Parliament (Parlemeter 2015): awareness of, knowledge about, attitudes towards and trust in the European Parliament; European Parliament policy priorities and values
  • European identity: European identity issues; attitudes towards and (dis-)advantages of European Union membership; general appraisal of the situation of the economy and of the personal household finances; future European Union challenges
  • Migration: attitudes towards the migration and asylum policies in the European Union.

    Notes:

The ´Parlemeter 2015´ module replicates many questions asked in the context of Eurobarometer 82.4 and 79.5 as well as a few questions from other Eurobarometer surveys. The ´Parlemeter´ module (QP1 to QP35) was implemented on behalf of and financed by the European Parliament.

Starting with Eurobarometer 81.3 (with 84.1 for Germany), the category scheme for country specific protocol variables P6 (SIZE OF COMMUNITY) has changed considerably. Categories for all countries have been harmonized among each other to three values (Rural area – Towns and suburbs/small urban area – Cities/large urban areas).

Data for protocol variables p8 (postal code), p9 (sample point number) and p10 (interviewer number) have not been made available.

Multiple variable names appear different in the data than in official reports. Variables with “q” at the beginning in the data correspond to the variable names “qp” in the data.

Eight duplicate cases in terms of identical coding of all substantial variables (qp1 to qp35 and all demographics) have been identified: four doublets for CROATIA (variable “uniqid” is not coded identical: 46000736 / 46002257; 46000733 / 46002254; 46000732 / 46002253; 46000731 / 46002252), three doublets for SLOVAKIA (variable “uniqid” is not coded identical: 41000923 / 41001154; 41000924 / 41001155; 41000925 / 41001156) and one doublet for NORTHERN IRELAND (variable “uniqid” is not coded identical: 23000174 / 23000223). With the exception of Northern Ireland, also the protocol variables p6 and p7 are coded identical.

In the course of a new dataset delivery from TNS the REGION variable for Romania has been corrected for an abnormal frequency distribution in version v2-0-0. Please note that the number of cases changed for the regions “Nord-Est (North-East)”, “Sud-Est (South-East)” and “Bucuresti -Ilfov (Bucharest)“ in variable p7ro: 80 former cases from“Sud-Est (South-East)” are now coded for “Bucuresti-Ilfov (Bucharest)“ and 8 former cases from “Sud-Est(South-East)” are coded for “Nord-Est (North-East)”. Accordingly the number of cases also changed for the regions “Macroregion 2” and “Macroregion 3” in variable p7ro_r. As a consequence of this data correction weights referring to Romania have been modified. Please note that official reports and tables may be based on former weights and slight deviations to the current dataset results can exist.
