The Eurobarometer survey is designed to provide regular monitoring of public social and political attitudes in the EU through specific trend questions.   • Life in European Union: standard trend questions on living conditions, important political issues, trust in institutions, democracy satisfaction, perception of and attitudes towards the European Union and European Unification, European Union knowledge;
  • Europe 2020: the Europe 2020 strategy (policy priorities);
  • Economic crisis: impact of the economic crisis on the job market, policy measures against the financial and economic crisis;
  • European citizenship: citizen rights and identification;

    Notes:

    All question modules in the standard Eurobarometer context and largely replicating questions asked in the context of Eurobarometer 85.2 or 84.3.

    Starting with Eurobarometer 81.3 (with 84.1 for Germany), the category scheme for country specific protocol variables P6 (SIZE OF COMMUNITY) has changed considerably. Categories for all countries have been harmonized among each other to three values (Rural area – Towns and suburbs/small urban area – Cities/large urban areas) except for Turkey (5-point category scheme). Starting with Eurobarometer 85.2 the category scheme for Montenegro, Serbia and Albania changed from three to two categories (Rural area – Urban area).

    Starting with Eurobarometer 81.3 the category scheme for country specific protocol variables P7 (REGION) has changed for some countries, in particular introducing NUTS categories for Ireland, Estonia, and Croatia.

    The label for qd8 has been corrected in release 1.3.0.

    Variables qd9_1 to qd9_7, qd14 and qe4t have been corrected in release 1.4.0.

    The variable label for qd4t_1 has been corrected in release 2-0-0.

    39 respondents from CY-TCC give substantial answers in qe6 (‘EU INFORMATION SOURCES’) and at the same time are coded 1 (‘Mentioned’) in qe6_15 (‘Never look for such information, not interested (SPONTANEOUS)’).

    Please note that two respondents from Germany give substantial answers in d46_1 to d46_11 (‘OWNERSHIP DURABLES’) and at the same time are coded 1 (‘Mentioned’) in d46_12 (‘None’).

    SIZE OF COMMUNITY (p6mk) is not available for Macedonia.

    The fieldwork dates implied by the values in protocol variable p1 (date of interview) differ slightly from those indicated in the technical specifications provided by TNS for some countries.

    In the course of a new dataset delivery from TNS/KANTAR the SIZE OF COMMUNITY variable p6al for Albania has been corrected for a deviant frequency distribution in release 1-5-0. As a consequence of this data correction weights referring to Albania have been modified. Please note that official reports and tables may be based on former weights and slight deviations to the current dataset results can exist.

    Please note that variable q1_29 has been adjusted in release 1.5.0 in order to include outliers that had been erroneously coded to 9 ‘Inap. (NOT ASKED IN OTHER COUNTRIES)’ in release 1-4-0 when filter instructions had been consistently applied. As a result, starting with dataset release 1-5-0 14 respondents from the Turkish Cypriot Community are coded 1 (Mentioned) in q1_29 (‘NATIONALITY: TURKEY’) even though q1_29 should only have been fielded in Turkey. Therefore the countries excluded by the corresponding filter statement are respectively coded 0 (‘Not mentioned’) in variable q1_29.

    Data for protocol variables p8 (postal code), p9 (sample point number), p10 (interviewer number), and p11 have not been made available. Items d2 (Party attachment) and d3 (Last vote in national parliamentary elections) are not part of this Eurobarometer. The data are not available.
