  • Life in European Union: standard trend questions on living conditions, important political issues, trust in institutions, democracy satisfaction, perception of and attitudes towards the European Union and European Unification, European Union knowledge;
  • Europe 2020: the Europe 2020 strategy (policy priorities);
  • Economic crisis: impact of the economic crisis on the job market, policy measures against the financial and economic crisis;

    Notes:

    All question modules in the standard Eurobarometer context and largely replicating questions asked in the context of Eurobarometer 86.2.

    Starting with Eurobarometer 81.3 (with 84.1 for Germany), the category scheme for country specific protocol variables P6 (SIZE OF COMMUNITY) has changed considerably. Categories for all countries have been harmonized among each other to three values (Rural area – Towns and suburbs/small urban area – Cities/large urban areas) except for Turkey (5-point category scheme). Starting with Eurobarometer 85.2 the category scheme for Montenegro, Serbia and Albania changed from three to two categories (Rural area – Urban area).

    Starting with Eurobarometer 81.3 the category scheme for country specific protocol variables P7 (REGION) has changed for some countries, in particular introducing NUTS categories for Ireland, Estonia, and Croatia.

    Starting with dataset version v2-0-0 the filter instruction is applied in variables q1_30 and q1_32 to q1_34 by recoding the excluded countries to code 9 (‘Inap. (NOT ASKED IN OTHER COUNTRIES)’). Since 128 respondents from the Turkish Cypriot Community are coded 1 (Mentioned) in q1_29 (‘NATIONALITY: TURKEY’) even though q1_29 should only have been fielded in Turkey, the countries excluded by the corresponding filter statement are respectively coded 0 (‘Not mentioned’) in variable q1_29. Similarly, since four respondents from the United Kingdom are coded 1 (Mentioned) in q1_31 (‘NATIONALITY: MAKEDONIA (FYROM)’) even though q1_31 should only have been fielded in Macedonia, the countries excluded by the corresponding filter statement are respectively coded 0 (‘Not mentioned’) in variable q1_31.

    Please note that one respondent from the Turkish Cypriot Community (Northern Cyprus) gives substantial answers to qd8_4 (‘IMPORTANT VALUES EU: INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM’) and qd8_8 (‘IMPORTANT VALUES EU: SOLIDARITY’) and at the same time is coded 1 (‘Mentioned’) in qd8_13 (‘IMPORTANT VALUES EU: NONE (SPONT)’).

    Please note that one respondent from the Turkish Cypriot Community (Northern Cyprus) gives substantial answers to qd7_2 (‘IMPORTANT VALUES PERS: RESPECT HUMAN LIFE’) and at the same time is coded 1 (‘Mentioned’) in qd7_13 (‘IMPORTANT VALUES PERS: NONE (SPONT)’).

    Please note that gen1 to gen6 are based on age instead of year of birth, which may entail a slightly inaccurate categorization for some respondents. Moreover, additional discrepancy in the categorization might be due to the potential use of 2016 as reference year instead of 2017.

    The end-of-fieldwork dates implied by the values in protocol variable p1 (date of interview) differ slightly from those indicated in the technical specifications provided by TNS for some countries.

    SIZE OF COMMUNITY (p6mk) is not available for Macedonia.

    LANGUAGE OF INTERVIEW in Macedonia (p13mk) have been corrected according to plausibility consideration and checked against regions (p7mk) with Albanian resp. Macedonian speaking majorities.

    Data for protocol variables p8 (postal code), p9 (sample point number) and p10 (interviewer number) have not been made available.
